Eating

We need to eat food every few days to survive. In richer countries, we just open the fridge or nip to the shop when we are peckish but millions of people worldwide don't have this option. Climate change is changing rainfall patterns and could bring greater flooding of farmland - just two things which make good farmland a scarce resource. While basic foods are a struggle for many people, others of us demand ever more exotic and high tech foods - from organic goji berries to vitamin enhanced probiotic drinks.
Not only will food production change because of climate change, it actually accelerates the process - everything from cows, fertilizers, rice farming to transporting and processing foods all add to climate change. So what will we all be eating in 2050 and how can we satisfy our tastes for interesting and exotic food while ensuring everyone has enough to eat?
In this area of the exhibition you will see some ways food production may change in the next few years; from the urban chicken run to zero energy refrigeration. Sit down to the Dinner Table and cooperate with other visitors to build yourself a meal. Explore some of the new developments in food production and design your own food for 2050. Organic or GM, niche snack or global staple - it's your choice, but Buz, Eco, Tek and Dug will be very vocal about what they like and dislike.
