'Torre HSBC', HSBC's new Mexican headquarters building in Mexico City, was designed and built including environmental initiatives which cut water usage by 55% and energy usage by 40% compared to similar buildings.

 Our Commitment

HSBC was the world's first major bank to go carbon neutral, at the end of 2005, and we're very conscious of the issues facing everyone — whether as part of business or as individuals — as a result of global warming and environmental changes.

We have around 10,000 offices in over 80 countries so it's very important for us to work on and keep track of how we are reducing our water and energy use and minimising our CO2 and waste outputs. We want to help our customers and staff understand the issues too and find out what they can do to help.

We do this in many ways, including through green sales, with industry lending policies that we have developed, and also initiatives such as the HSBC Climate Partnership, which is a five-year partnership between HSBC and four, world-class environmental charities — WWF, Earthwatch Institute, The Climate Group and the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute.

Education and the environment

HSBC supports a wide variety of youth education and environmental programmes all around the world and sponsoring The Science of Survival is a great fit with our focus. You can read more about all these projects and initiatives at http://www.hsbccommittochange.com/.
